I’m not supposed to be here.

Death has come for me more than once, and each time it’s been a boy who’s
stood between me and my final breath.

I called him Christopher when he saved me as a child. When he came into my
life again, only months ago, I knew him as Wes. Just as he did the time
before, he disappeared the moment he made sure I was out of harm’s way; as
if I didn’t need any more saving.

This time, though, death left me with a reminder of how powerful it is. I
know it meant to strip me of my spirit again, but it failed.

Even so, I know I need Wes to survive. Our souls are woven together
somehow, our every breath in sync. I feel it, even though everyone says I
shouldn’t.

The world thinks he’s missing.
His loved ones don’t want to believe he’s dead.
Only I know just how special he is.

I’m going to find him and bring him home, where he belongs. Together,
we’ll face impossible—we’ll rewrite our ending.

And when the bad guys come calling, we will always win.

Ginger Scott is an Amazon-bestselling and Goodreads Choice Award-nominated author of several young and new adult romances, including Waiting on the Sidelines, Going Long, Blindness, How We Deal With Gravity, This Is Falling, You and Everything After, The Girl I Was Before, Wild Reckless, Wicked Restless, In Your Dreams, The Hard Count, Hold My Breath, and A Boy Like You.

A sucker for a good romance, Ginger’s other passion is sports, and she often blends the two in her stories. (She’s also a sucker for a hot quarterback, catcher, pitcher, point guard…the list goes on.) Ginger has been writing and editing for newspapers, magazines and blogs for more than 15 years. She has told the stories of Olympians, politicians, actors, scientists, cowboys, criminals and towns. For more on her and her work, visit her website at http://www.littlemisswrite.com.

When she's not writing, the odds are high that she's somewhere near a baseball diamond, either watching her son field pop flies like Bryce Harper or cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ginger lives in Arizona and is married to her college sweetheart whom she met at ASU (fork 'em, Devils).

REVIEW

After reading A Boy Like You, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this conclusion. The cliffy at the end of book one left me desperate for explanations about this very unique and beautifully crafted story. Ginger kept me on my toes, making me brainstorm theories around every corner. Just when I thought I had an element pegged, she turned around and threw a new revelation in to contemplate. For me, that successful element of surprise is such a valuable quality while reading. And once I started, I could NOT put this book down. I was held tight in its grip and loving every minute.

Joss and Wes have already been through hell and back in their young lives, but something ominous still looms. You get hints and pieces in the previous book, but all you're left with is questions and anxiety. You just know their toughest challenge is still to come. But if anyone was up for conquering insurmountable obstacles? It would be this girl. Joss.

Josselyn Winters is a fighter. Her strength, tenacity, and courage were all characteristics that helped mold her into the gifted softball player she was. Even when tragedy marked her once again, she didn't let pity overwhelm her for long. She stood up, brushed herself off, and declared war. She wasn't going to lose this fight sitting down. And then there was the boy who entered her life, pushed her to find her spirit again. With his disappearance, she could have crumbled, lost herself into her old habits. But instead, she vowed to find him and bring him home by whatever means necessary. What she found was something that she least expected, the knowledge discovered in the journey was devastating.

I left this house in the middle of the night in search of answers, and days later, all I have is pain and regret.

Wes was such a pure-hearted, and selfless guy. He made some hard choices, some that were misguided, but his intentions were in the right place. The love he showed Joss was as natural as breathing, it was special in a way I can't describe. Just like him. I loved him, and I loved him for Joss. If there were ever two characters that soulmates, who were destined to be together, it was them. And the way their story unfolded had me invested in not only their individual growth, but in how their relationship matured. I saw Joss transform from a careless and reckless teen to a young woman who could stand on her own two feet. While she loved that Wes wanted to charge in and rescue her, she wanted to slay her own dragons. And she did.

Wes has taught me what tender means; what love is and what self-respect deserves.

I can't finish the review without mentioning how amazing the entire cast of characters were. Not only the h/H, but the secondary characters had such fantastic depth to them. Her father's struggle to overcome his addiction and become the parent that Joss deserved was a beautiful and worthy story all on its own. And Kyle...oh my. Sweet, funny, and so broken-hearted, I was longing for him to find someone of his own. His story just begging to be told, and I can only hope that Ginger takes pity on us all and revisits this town to bring him his HEA.

My one little quibble is one thing that happens in the end. (view spoiler) But in the overall scheme of things, it barely registered on my rating. I could undoubtedly see myself re-reading this and enjoying it many times to come.

This duet is definitely distinctive from Ginger's other stories, but I mean that in the best way. Her writing has such a diverse range and I can't recommend her enough if you haven't had a chance to try out one of her books. I'm obviously a big fan, but I have to say that this duet is my new favorite. It was emotional, mysterious, and it beautifully expressed the power of love and perseverance in adversity. I can't go into major detail about the plot, but I leave you with one important demand thought. Read. This. Book!

“I’m yours,” he says, his head falling against mine.
“Yeah?” I ask.
“Yeah,” he says. “I’ll be the reason you wake up smiling. That’s hero enough for me.”
